This weekend

This...
Dress that I got that was too big for me from a consignment store.  I liked it and I couldn't leave it (especially for the cost).  Hopefully it will be ready by my husband's early summer graduation.  Well, I know it will be ready by then.  I just hope that I'm the one doing the alterations.

Inspired me to get this...
Kingston Precision Vintage Sewing Machine--it was barely over $20 but I thought it would be a good one to practice with.  I know that it looks pretty raggedy but I think it has a lot of character.  And it works! I may spruce it up a little as a hobby in the future--we'll see.  Also, hopefully I can sew some cute baby accessories with it one day in the future.  Who knows!

So this is the reason I have not posted much this weekend...
Trying to teach myself to use this grandmother of a sewing machine.  Notice the sticky notes (labels) on it so I can learn the different parts.  I'm trying to learn the basics and build my way up to being an expert.  Yah, right!  I've been researching the entire weekend.  I've given it a few test runs without much success but I'm not giving up (yet).

If you have any pearls on how to use this thing I would greatly appreciate it.  Send all your sewing tips/ideas this way.  By the way, that awful green color thread came with the machine.  I didn't buy it.

  1. I have no idea how to use it, but I'm glad you have a new hobby. Maybe one day I'll learn how to sew.

  2. Wow, how ambitious of you to buy a dress and then a sewing machine to alter it yourself. That yellow dress is super cute and I'm sure it will look great on you. Good luck learning how to sew. Keep us posted. I'd love to learn one day.

  5. Thanks ladies.
Monique--you call it ambitious. I call it crazy. LOL.
Sommer--LMBO. Green is one of my least favorite colors.
I like the dress so much that if I don't feel comfortable altering it myself, I will have someone else do it.

  6. Good luck in the project. I bought my machine this summer and so far I have just turned an old pair of jeans into skirt and my Hubby's trouser into short. One day I might post on my blog for a laugh :)!

  10. Thanks for dropping by Ms. Baby Plan, K. Rock, Tye and Real Talk :).
K Rock--you should go for it.
Real Talk--wow that's cool that you already know how to use a sewing machine. I know, mine is pretty ancient. I may be hitting you up for a few tips. I'll check out your blog soon.
Tye: Thanks so much for the blog award. I will come by to get soon. You're so sweet for considering me :)

  11. Love that dress! Good luck with learning to sew! Sewing is pretty big in my family and DH's (quilting is huge), but I haven't sewn anything since the pajamas I made back in a high school home ec class. I'm thinking that learning how to quilt and knit would be fun, but I'm cool waiting a little longer before jumping in. I'll be following along on your projects!
